On 3 June 2021, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) escalated resolution of its data protection decision to the European Data Protection Board in the investigation into WhatsApp over alleged data breaches. Prior (24 December 2020), the DPC had circulated its draft decision to the Concerned Supervisory Authorities in its investigation into WhatsApp over alleged data breaches. In the interim, the DPC (as the "Lead Supervisory Authority") and the Concerned Supervisory Authorities were unable to reach a consensus on appropriate measures to take against WhatsApp. The DPC therefore triggered the dispute resolution process under Article 65 GDPR.
