Ministry of Public Security closes consultation on Law on the Prevention and Control of Cybercrime including data protection regulation

On 2 March 2026, the Ministry of Public Security closes the public consultation on the Law on the Prevention and Control of Cybercrime. The law addresses cybercrime within China and extends to acts by citizens or entities abroad that harm China's interests. Article 22 prohibits the illegal handling of personal information or the provision of such data in support of criminal activities. Illegal handling constitutes illegally storing, collecting, processing, disclosing, or deleting personal information.
