Netherlands: Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets opened investigation into Roblox over alleged risks to minors under Digital Services Act

Description

Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets opened investigation into Roblox over alleged risks to minors under Digital Services Act

On 30 January 2026, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) opened an investigation into the online game platform Roblox concerning possible risks faced by minors in the European Union. The investigation will examine whether Roblox has taken sufficient measures to protect minors, including measures addressing exposure to violent or explicit content, contact by bad actors, and the use of misleading techniques to stimulate purchases. The investigation follows a preliminary inquiry during which the ACM requested and assessed information from the platform and determined that there were sufficient grounds to open a formal investigation into possible violations. Acting as the national authority responsible for enforcing the Digital Services Act (DSA) in the Netherlands, the ACM will assess compliance with the obligation for platforms to implement appropriate and proportionate measures to ensure a high level of privacy, safety, and security for minors. The investigation is expected to last approximately 12 months and may lead to enforcement action.
