Russia: Bill on prevention and control of offenses related to distortion of historical truth (Bill No. 1127364-8) was introduced to State Duma

On 21 January 2026, the Bill on prevention and control of offenses related to distortion of historical truth (Bill No. 1127364-8) was introduced to the State Duma. The Bill proposes amendments to Part 1 of Article 6 of Federal Law No. 182-FZ of 23 June 2016, On the Fundamentals of the System for the Prevention of Offences in the Russian Federation. It would add two new objectives to the system for the prevention of offences: subparagraph 17, covering the prevention and suppression of evasion from the duty to defend the Fatherland, and subparagraph 18, covering counteraction to the distortion of historical truth.
