Roskomnadzor blocks access to Facebook due to censorship allegations

On 4 March 2022, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) announced that it is blocking access to Facebook in the Russian Federation. Roskomnadzor claimed that Meta, previously Facebook, limited access to Russian media and information resources, citing around 26 registered cases since October 2020, including RIA Novosti, Sputnik, Russia Today, the Lenta.ru and Gazeta.ru. Furthermore, Roskomnadazor noted that restricting access to Russian media represents a violation of Federal law No. 272-FZ as it limits the users' freedom to access information on foreign Internet platforms.
