On 25 January 2026, the House of Representatives announced its intention to draft a law regulating the use of social media applications and websites by children to address psychological and behavioural risks. The proposed legislation aims to counter digital addiction and protect youth from digital environments that could negatively impact their development. The House of Representatives intends to take formal steps within its constitutional framework to study and enact regulations addressing the current use of social media by minors. To support this initiative, the parliament will conduct a dialogue through its specialised committees. These committees will invite proposals from several state bodies, including the government (represented by the Minister of Parliamentary, Legal and Political Communication Affairs and the Minister of Communications and Information Technology) and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority. The National Council for Motherhood and Childhood will also be consulted.
