On 7 January 2026, the Law on Protection of Children and Young People in the Digital Environment was introduced to the Grand National Assembly. The law applies to content providers, intermediary service providers, social network providers, gaming companies, and users. It seeks to establish a preventive and protective framework addressing risks, including digital addiction, virtual gambling, cyberbullying, harmful or obscene content, misuse of personal data, disinformation, and terrorist propaganda. The law prohibits game companies from processing the personal or location data of children under 16 for commercial purposes and requires social network providers to implement and maintain age-verification systems. The law would allow the use of biometric data solely for age verification and prohibit its further processing, and would ban the display of targeted or personalised advertising to children.
