Turkiye: Personal Data Protection Authority published public announcement on implementation principles of Decision No. 2025/1572 amending data protection authority (VERBIS) registration exemption

On 12 January 2026, the Personal Data Protection Authority published the Public Announcement Regarding the Implementation Principles of the Personal Data Protection Board's Decision No. 2025/1572 dated 4 September 2025. The announcement set out the legal basis under Article 16(2) of Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data, described the exemption framework for registration with the Data Controllers Registry Information System (VERBIS), and communicated the interpretative approach adopted in Decision No. 2025/2393. The publication clarified how employee number and annual financial balance criteria apply to data controllers using different bookkeeping methods.
