Republic of Korea: Fair Trade Commission issued ruling with fine of KRW 5 million against Yanadu over misleading advertising of scholarship programmes

Description

Fair Trade Commission issued ruling with fine of KRW 5 million against Yanadu over misleading advertising of scholarship programmes

On 2 January 2026, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) fined Yanadu KRW 5 million under the Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce Act) for misleading advertising of scholarship programmes. Between December 2023 and May 2025, Yanadu exaggerated scholarship outcomes, claiming a threefold increase in course completion rates and citing KRW 8.8 billion in scholarships with 160,000–170,000 participants, without disclosing that the figures applied to a single programme or providing objective evidence. KFTC found this violated Article 21(1)(1) of the E-Commerce Act. The corrective order is effective immediately and prohibits recurrence.
