On 18 December 2025, the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) established a reporting mechanism for violations of the Act on Promoting Competition Regarding Specific Software Used in Smartphones. The JFTC stated that the reporting mechanism is intended to support the enforcement of the Act, which entered into force on the same day, by facilitating the means by which members of the public can notify the JFTC of suspected violations. Reports should include the contact details of the reporting person, the name and location of the person suspected of committing a violation, and details regarding the nature of the violation, as well as documentation, if applicable. The JFTC will notify the reporting person of measures taken, or if it decides not to take any measures.
