On 5 December 2025, the Consumer Protection (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was introduced to the House of the People of the Parliament of India. The Bill proposes amendments to section 2 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, expanding the definition of “unfair trade practice” to cover the failure to disclose essential terms, conditions, or fees associated with a transaction, including dynamic pricing mechanisms such as surge or personalised pricing. The amendments also address the use of algorithms or automated systems that influence consumer behaviour and limit consumer choice. In addition, they include provisions concerning barriers that consumers may face when cancelling subscriptions, returning goods, or opting out of services.
