Switzerland: Competition Commission Secretariat announced investigation into Apple regarding NFC access

On 10 December 2025, the Competition Commission Secretariat announced an investigation into Apple regarding the conditions for third-party app developers to access near-field communication (NFC) interfaces on Apple devices. The Secretariat seeks to determine whether the conditions under which Apple provides Swiss third-party developers with access to NFC interfaces is in conformity with competition laws. The Secretariat plans to focus on the question of whether third-party providers of mobile payment apps are able to effectively compete with Apple Pay in offering contactless payments on iOS devices.
