Communications and Multimedia Commission issued report on enforcement actions against child-related obscene content

On 3 December 2025, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that between 1 January 2024 and 30 November 2025, it had identified 957 cases of child-related obscene content and had secured the removal of 899 posts, corresponding to a compliance rate of 94% from the part of the social media platforms. Tumblr, TikTok, and Facebook were the platforms that most frequently responded. Enforcement activities were carried out through joint operations with the Royal Malaysia Police. Operation Pedo 1.0 in December 2024 resulted in 13 arrests and the seizure of more than 40,000 items of child sexual abuse material. Operation Pedo 2.0, undertaken between 22 and 30 September 2025, led to 31 arrests across 37 locations, the seizure of more than 880’000 files, and the confiscation of 82 devices. Cases in the second operation included teachers and foreign nationals. Of the 19 individuals charged, 17 pleaded guilty. The operation also generated 29 investigation papers, indicating changes in technical and operational practices.
