Malaysia: Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission announced order establishing 16 as minimum age for social media use

On 3 December 2025, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced an order establishing 16 as minimum age for social media use. Specifically, the MCMC announced that it was in the process of formulating subsidiary instruments to accompany the implementation of the Online Safety Act 2025. It stated that it was preparing the implementation of a minimum age requirement of 16 years for social media user registration and expected it to enter into effect in 2026.
