On 7 November 2025, the Danish Government announced the political agreement on digital child protection, together with the non-governing Conservative Party and Social Liberal Party. The agreement expresses a shared commitment to making Denmark a leader in digital child protection in Europe, with future policy to be organised around five main objectives: raising the age at which children access smartphones and social media, ensuring that digital products are safe by design, reducing digital violations against children, effectively enforcing child protection laws, and leading the EU in child protection. The agreement contains a number of specific proposals for future legislation, including limiting children under 15 from accessing social media platforms, with the possibility of access from the age of 13 if parental consent is provided. The agreement states that the law should apply to the largest social media platforms that contain proven risks for children, such as addictive design features or harmful content. The agreement makes a number of further suggestions, including recommendations aimed at establishing new digital norms to delay the age at which children begin using smartphones.
