On 1 December 2025, the Information Commissioner’s Office released the Children’s Code Strategy Progress Update, outlining developments since March 2025 on default privacy settings, geolocation, targeted advertising, recommender systems, and age assurance across assessed social media and video-sharing platforms. The update also noted TikTok’s appeal against an information notice in the ongoing investigation into its recommender systems and described planned work on mobile games. It stated that following the passage of the Data (Use and Access) Act, which introduces additional requirements for protecting children online, the Information Commissioner’s Office will update its guidance, examine implications for existing codes, and work with the government on the sequencing and delivery of guidance and on secondary legislation requiring a new code on the processing of children’s personal information in educational technology.
