Australia: Social Media Minimum Age Repeal Bill was introduced to Senate

On 25 November 2025, the Social Media Minimum Age Repeal Bill 2025 was introduced in the Senate. The Act repeals the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024, removing all legal minimum age requirements for using social media in Australia. It eliminates references to age-restricted platforms and users from the Online Safety Act 2021, repeals Part 4A concerning minimum age provisions, and reduces related civil penalties. Transitional provisions ensure that the amendments apply to directions and compliance with industry codes and standards from the commencement date, which is the day the Act receives Royal Assent.
