On 26 November 2025, the European Commission sent a request for information to Shein under the Digital Services Act (DSA). The request follows preliminary indications that illegal goods, including child-like sex dolls and weapons, are being offered on the platform, and reports of illegal product sales in France. The Commission suspects Shein's system may pose a systemic risk for consumers across the European Union, particularly concerning the exposure of minors to age-inappropriate content and the circulation of illegal products. The request formally asks Shein to provide detailed information and internal documents regarding its age assurance measures to protect minors and its methods for preventing the circulation of illegal products. Additionally, the Commission is inquiring about the effectiveness of these mitigation measures. As a Very Large Online Platform (VLOP), Shein is obligated under the DSA to assess and adequately mitigate systemic risks arising from its systems, design, or service functioning.
