Police Force issued implementation directives requiring Apple and Google prevent spoofing of government agencies

On 24 November 2025, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) issued implementation directives requiring Apple and Google to introduce measures to prevent the spoofing of government agencies on their messaging services by 30 November 2025. The companies must block or filter messages from accounts or group chats that impersonate "gov.sg” and ensure that unknown profile names are either not displayed or shown less prominently than messages from known contacts. Singapore government agencies have used the "gov.sg" SMS sender ID for official messages since July 2024, but this identifier is not applied to iMessage or Google Messages. The SPF directives were issued following an emerging pattern of scams involving "gov.sg" impersonation on these platforms.
