Description

European Commission closes consultation in inquiry on Digital Fitness Check

On 11 March 2026, the European Commission closes its consultation as part of the Digital Fitness Check inquiry. The initiative is the second step of the Commission's simplification of the EU digital regulatory framework, following the adjustments put forward by the Digital Omnibus. The initiative aims to evaluate the complementarity, efficiency, and effectiveness of the legal framework. The initial call for evidence specifically seeks input on the cumulative impact of digital rules on people, businesses, and authorities. Based on the feedback received through this call, the initiative will proceed by assessing in further depth the interaction between laws, the coherence between legal notions and regulatory scope, and the interplay of governance mechanisms. The Commission states that it aims to focus on the simplification potential of the legal framework, especially in relation to SMEs.
