On 7 November 2025, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) of the Government of India opened a public consultation until 27 November 2025 as part of a comprehensive review of existing mechanisms addressing copyright infringement and strengthening anti-piracy strategies in relation to film, broadcasting and over-the-top (OTT) content across the Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector, including the film industry, streaming platforms, TV channels, intermediary platforms, and telecommunications infrastructure. The consultation aims to gather inputs from stakeholders to support a review of existing mechanisms to combat digital piracy, specifically in relation to the removal of pirated content. The MIB highlighted the economic losses and enforcement challenges arising from unauthorised dissemination of protected works, as well as the cross-sectoral implications involving intermediary platforms, telecom infrastructure and enforcement mechanisms. Stakeholders are invited to submit inputs on current challenges in identifying and removing pirated content, gaps in technological or procedural enforcement, international best practices relevant to the Indian context, and measures for improving coordination among platforms, government agencies and rights holders.
