Republic of Korea: Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology issued order against Korea Telecom Corporation over failure to report malware infections

On 7 November 2025, the Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology issued an order against Korea Telecom Corporation (KT) for failing to report malware infections on 43 servers last year. The investigation found that KT handled the issue internally and that KT’s poor femtocell management allowed illegal devices to access its network. The breach affected digital payments, with 368 users defrauded and 22'000 subscriber identities leaked, causing over 240 million won in damages.
