Indonesia: Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs issued guidance reaffirming content removal authority under Electronic Information and Transactions Law

On 20 October 2025, the Ministry of Communication and Digital issued guidance reaffirming its authority under the Electronic Information and Transactions Law to remove online content. The Law includes obligations for platforms to cooperate in assessments and comply with takedown decisions concerning pornography, gambling, hoaxes, hate speech, bullying, and content threatening national unity. It was stated that the Ministry conducts joint reviews with platforms and law enforcement, with appeals possible where disagreement arises.
