Description

Egypt launched National IPv6 Strategy

On 10 May 2025, Egypt launched its National Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) Strategy during an international conference organised by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in Cairo. The strategy establishes a roadmap to modernise Egypt’s digital infrastructure, ensure the sustainability of internet services, and accommodate the expansion of fifth-generation (5G) networks and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. It sets the objective of achieving full readiness of both public and private infrastructure to support IPv6 within three years and to increase national adoption to over 60% by 2030, with full support from internet service providers by the end of 2026. The plan includes specialised training programmes, awareness campaigns, and cooperation with regional and international partners to ensure effective implementation. It aligns with global developments, as IPv6 adoption exceeded 70% in some markets and averaged 45% worldwide by the end of 2024. IPv6, offering an unlimited number of IP addresses, supports the scalability, efficiency, and security of data transmission, serving as a key enabler for the digital economy and smart city applications within Egypt’s Digital Vision 2030.
