United Kingdom: Secretary of State Media Act 2024 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2024 including content moderation authority governance entered into force

On 15 August 2024, the Secretary of State's Media Act 2024 (Commencement No. 1) Regulations 2024 including content moderation authority governance entered into force. The Commencement Regulations stipulate that section 39 of the Media Act 2024 shall enter into force on 23 August 2024. Section 39 amends the Communications Act 2003 by giving the Office of Communications (Ofcom) new powers to regulate "on-demand programme services". Furthermore, video-on-demand providers not currently regulated in the UK but who target and profit from UK audiences will also be brought under Ofcom's jurisdiction.
