Republic of Korea: Fair Trade Commission issued ruling against Content Wavve with fine of KRW 4 million over consumer contract cancellations

Description

Fair Trade Commission issued ruling against Content Wavve with fine of KRW 4 million over consumer contract cancellations

On 15 October 2025, the Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) issued a ruling against Content Wavve with a fine of KRW 4 million for obstructing consumer contract cancellations in violation of the E-Commerce Act. The ruling applies to Content Wavve's subscription-based video streaming service. The ruling highlighted that Content Wavve failed to provide clear guidance on mid-term cancellations, instead only presenting the less favourable standard cancellation option. The KFTC ordered corrective action, and the company has since amended its user interface and online information to include information on mid-term termination procedures.
