European Union: European Data Protection Board announced topic for Coordinated Enforcement Action 2026 on transparency and information obligations under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

Description

European Data Protection Board announced topic for Coordinated Enforcement Action 2026 on transparency and information obligations under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

On 14 October 2025, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) selected compliance with transparency and information obligations under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as the topic for its fifth coordinated enforcement action. Articles 12, 13, and 14 of the GDPR require that individuals be informed when their personal data is processed, ensuring transparency and enabling greater control over personal information. Under the Coordinated Enforcement Framework (CEF), the EDPB identifies a common area of focus for Data Protection Authorities (DPAs), which then carry out national investigations whose results are aggregated and analysed to provide a comprehensive EU-wide perspective. Participating DPAs will join this action on a voluntary basis in the coming weeks, with enforcement activities scheduled to launch during 2026. The CEF was established in October 2020 and is an element of the EDPB Strategy 2024–2027.
