National Data Protection Authority launched regulatory sandbox on artificial intelligence and data protection

On 27 June 2025, Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority (ANPD), issued Notice No. 2/2025 launching a pilot regulatory sandbox on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data protection. The sandbox applies to public and private entities, including start-ups, developing AI systems that process personal data. It establishes a supervised 20-month testing environment for up to three participants to promote algorithmic transparency, privacy-by-design, and safeguards against discrimination in line with Brazil’s General Data Protection Law.
