European Union: European Commission opened consultation on upcoming revision of European Standardisation Regulation

On 24 September 2025, the European Commission opened a public consultation on the upcoming revision of the European Union Standardisation Regulation until 17 December 2025. The consultation aims to gather information to inform policy measures aimed at improving the European standardisation system. The revision, first announced in the Competitiveness Compass in January 2025, addresses challenges such as standard-setting delays that affect the functioning of the single market. It also aims to make the process more efficient, responsive to policy developments, and inclusive, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups. The initiative is expected to enhance innovation, access to new technologies, and the European Union’s role in international standardisation. The revised regulation is scheduled for adoption in 2026, following priorities outlined in the Commission’s evaluation document published in July 2025.
