Brazil: Bill on mandatory payment receipts by online payment platforms introduced to National Congress (PL 242/2024)

On 8 February 2024, a Bill on mandatory payment receipts by online payment platforms was introduced to the National Congress in Brazil. The Bill stipulates that such companies are required to furnish a payment receipt to consumers who carry out transactions through their electronically maintained platforms for the remote purchase of products or hiring of services. The measure seeks to enhance transparency and consumer protection within the digital payment ecosystem. The payment receipt must be readily available to both the consumer who completed the payment and the establishment that received the payment, whenever requested by either party involved in the transaction.
