Brazil: Law criminalising misappropriation of erroneous PIX transfers (PL 4714/2025) introduced to National Congress

On 23 September 2025, the Law criminalising misappropriation of erroneous PIX transfers (PL 4714/2025) introduced to National Congress. This legislative proposal would amend the Penal Code by criminalising the misappropriation or refusal to return assets received through erroneous transfers via PIX, the Brazilian central bank's instant payment system. An individual who misappropriates a PIX transfer made by error or refuses to return it would be subject to imprisonment between one and four years, as well as a fine.
