On 23 September 2025, the Bill on content moderation in social media platforms was introduced to the Chamber of Deputies. It applies to platforms hosting user-generated content in Brazil. Platforms are required to have clear moderation policies. They must remove or flag verified disinformation, especially viral content. The Bill also provides that users should be able to report and track complaints. Platforms must cooperate with fact-checkers. An independent Committee for Digital Audit and Transparency will audit compliance. Non-compliance may lead to warnings, fines up to BRL 50 million, or temporary suspension.
