China: Cyberspace Administration issued order against Toutiao platform over harmful content

On 23 September 2025, the Cyberspace Administration of China issued an order against Toutiao for harming the online ecosystem. The platform failed to manage content responsibly, showing negative topics on its hot search list and landing page. Authorities issued interviews, rectification orders, warnings, and accountability under the Regulations on the Ecological Governance of Network Information Content. The order requires Toutiao to strengthen moderation and fulfil its social duties.
