Ministry of Science and ICT opened investigation into claims of an international hacking organisation stealing and selling SK Telecom customer data

On 16 September 2025, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) opened an investigation into allegations by an international hacking group concerning the theft and sale of SK Telecom customer data. In coordination with the Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA), the MSIT requested materials from SK Telecom and began on-site inspections to assess the claims. The investigation seeks to determine the circumstances of the alleged unauthorised access and sale of customer information. The Cyber Intrusion Response Division within the MSIT is leading the inquiry, with support from KISA’s Threat Analysis Division.
