European Commission opened consultation on Digital Omnibus focusing on digital simplification

On 16 September 2025, the European Commission opened a consultation on the Digital Omnibus, focusing on digital simplification, until 14 October 2025. The consultation applies to companies providing digital services or products with a digital component in the European Union, including small and medium-sized enterprises and mid-cap data-driven businesses. The Digital Omnibus will propose amendments through a Directive and a Regulation to reduce compliance costs and clarify rules. The focus areas includes the Data Governance Act, Free Flow of Non-Personal Data Regulation, Open Data Directive, ePrivacy Directive, cybersecurity incident reporting obligations, the Artificial Intelligence Act, and European Digital Identity Framework. It will also address cookie consent, streamline cybersecurity reporting, ensure predictable application of the Artificial Intelligence Act, and support trusted services and the European Union Business Wallet.
