Data Protection Authority opened investigation into World 2 Meet over alleged unnecessary collection of personal data

On 18 July 2025, the Spanish Data Protection Authority began an investigation into World 2 Meet over the alleged unnecessary collection of personal data. World 2 Meet is the travel division of the Iberostar Group, a global tourism and hotel company. The investigation followed a complaint filed on 22 June 2024. The complainant claimed that World 2 Meet required him to submit a copy of his identity document in order to complete the traveller registration. He noted that had already provided the data within the documents for himself and his travel party, but the company claimed that copies of the full documents were necessary to make the appropriate communications to the Civil Guard.
