Regulations on the Scope of Necessary Personal Information for Common Types of Mobile Internet Applications implemented

On 1 May 2021, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), together with a number of other government ministries, has implemented the Regulations on the Scope of Necessary Personal Information for Common Types of Mobile Internet Applications. The Regulations apply to mobile apps which collect user's personal information, setting out the scope of necessary personal information for providing app services depending on service type, and stating that service cannot be refused to users for not agreeing to provide non-essential personal information.
