On 22 August 2025, the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced a pilot project on quality and safety coding verification for online products. The project applies to e-commerce platforms, including Taobao, Kuaishou, Pinduoduo, Douyin, JD.com, Suning.com, Xiaohongshu, Vipshop, and Tencent, requiring them to adopt code-based verification systems to strengthen product entry reviews and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards. Participating platforms are required to take responsibility for verification and oversight to create a safer online consumption environment, with implementation overseen by SAMR alongside provincial market supervision bureaus in Beijing, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Sichuan, and Hunan.
