Bill amending Internet Civil Rights Framework to provide mandatory communication to authorities for content with indications of crime was introduced to Federal Senate (PL 3955)

On 12 August 2025, the Bill amending Law No. 12,965 on the Internet Civil Rights Framework to provide mandatory communication to police authorities for content with indications of crime was introduced to the Federal Senate. The Bill requires social media platforms to alert the Public Prosecutor’s Office and police within 24 hours when users are warned for content that may be criminal, including child exploitation, racism, crime incitement or non-consensual sexual material. Platforms must provide user details, copies of the content and technical data, and keep records for at least 180 days. They must also display a red warning icon with the text “Profile warned for content with indications of crime” on warned profiles for 180 days.
