On 8 October 2021, China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) concluded its investigation into online food delivery platform Meituan for alleged abuse of market dominance under the Anti-Monopoly Law. The SAMR found that Meituan had abused its market dominance by charging different rates through algorithms, implementing exclusive cooperation agreements, excluding competition, and limiting the flow of market elements, among others. It ordered Meituan to cease its illegal acts and imposed a fine of 3% of its total 2020 sales, amounting to 3.442 billion yuan. This administrative penalty decision is in conformity with Articles 47 and 49 of the Anti-Monopoly Law.
