Description

Governor signed Social Media Parental Notification Act including age verification requirements

On 4 July 2023, the Governor signed the Bill requiring age verification for online services. The Bill mandates operators of online websites, services, or products that children access to obtain verifiable consent for any contract with a child, including terms of service, from the child's parent or legal guardian. The Bill also outlines various methods for obtaining this consent, such as signing a digital form, using a credit card, debit card or other online payment system, calling a toll-free telephone number, connecting to trained personnel via videoconference and offering a form of government-issued identification to be checked. The Bill is scheduled to enter into force on 15 January 2024.
