On 24 July 2025, the Secretariat of the Cyberspace Administration of China launched a two-month nationwide enforcement action under the 2025 "Clear and Bright" series by announcing a special campaign to clear up and rectify the release of false information by "self-media". The investigation focuses on curbing violations such as public opinion manipulation, distortion of facts using Artificial Intelligence (AI), and dissemination of unverified content. The campaign's goal is to enhance information governance across digital platforms by directing regional cyberspace administration offices to bolster organisational oversight, enforce source labelling, establish professional qualification certifications, and implement corrective measures for non-compliant entities. Platforms are required to deploy dynamic verification systems, control algorithmic content amplification, and improve user reporting channels to reinforce regulatory mechanisms against disinformation risks.
