Description

Information Commissioner's Office opened consultation on guidance on profiling tools for online safety

On 30 July 2025, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) opened a consultation on its guidance on the use of profiling tools for online safety until 31 October 2025. The guidance sets out data protection and privacy considerations for the use of profiling tools in trust and safety systems, including use cases falling within the scope of the Online Safety Act 2023. The consultation includes a survey structured in three sections covering organisational information, use of the guidance, and its impact. Responses are collected through the Citizen Space platform provided by UK supplier Delib. The ICO may publish statistical summaries and high-level qualitative insights, but will not disclose individual responses.
