European Commission adopted cooperation arrangement with Japan Fair Trade Commission on competition enforcement

On 23 July 2025, the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology and the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission adopted the cooperation arrangement with the Japan Fair Trade Commission on competition enforcement. The arrangement was signed in the context of the EU-Japan Digital Partnership to strengthen collaboration on regulating digital platforms under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Japan’s Mobile Software Competition Act (MSCA). The arrangement applies to large digital platforms and aims to promote contestability, competition and fairness. The arrangement seeks to facilitate non-confidential information exchange, technical expert dialogues, staff training, sharing of best practices, and developing investigatory tools and market intelligence methodologies.
