On 26 June 2025, the Turkish Competition Board announced an investigation into Mastercard and Visa, and their local and European subsidiaries. The investigation focuses on potential violations of Articles 4 on anti-competitive agreements and 6 on unilateral abusive behaviour by dominant firms under the Law No. 4054 on the Protection of Competition. The investigation focuses on allegations that the companies restricted other payment service providers from accessing payment and point of sale infrastructure offered to banks for use with overseas merchants, thereby hindering international payment solutions.
