On 19 August 2025, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) concludes the 30-day public comment period on the petition submitted by the former chief executive officer of Support King, which previously operated the SpyFone platform. The petition requested that the FTC vacate or amend its 2021 order, which had imposed a permanent ban on the marketing, sale, promotion, or distribution of surveillance applications or services by Support King, LLC and its executive. The 2021 order also required the implementation of a comprehensive information-security programme and mandated biennial third-party compliance assessments across all affiliated businesses. The petitioner argued that the order imposed ongoing financial and operational burdens on his existing businesses, which are unrelated to surveillance technology, and requested either full revocation of the order or the elimination of its audit, reporting, and compliance provisions. All comments submitted by the public will be reviewed and published on Regulations.gov prior to the Commission’s final determination on whether to uphold, modify, or vacate the existing enforcement order.
