Internet Information Office concluded investigation into alleged distribution of harmful content on short video platforms

On 17 July 2025, the China Internet Information Office concluded an investigation into the distribution of harmful content on short video platforms. The investigation examined malicious marketing and harmful content on short video platforms, including Douyin, Kuaishou, Bilibili, Xiaohongshu, WeChat Video, and Weibo. The investigation applied to accounts engaged in fabricating scripts, spreading false information, creating fake personalities, using Artificial Intelligence-based impersonation, publishing vulgar or harassing content, and employing misleading titles to generate traffic. Multiple accounts were closed or banned in accordance with the law and platform rules, and the authority announced continued efforts to strengthen platform accountability and curb the spread of illegal or harmful information.
