On 18 September 2024, the European Commission closes a consultation on trustworthy general-purpose Artificial Intelligence (AI) models as part of the process of formulating a General-Purpose AI Code of Practice. The consultation includes rules on copyright for general-purpose AI models. The Code of Practice will detail obligations under Articles 53 to 56 of the AI Act on keeping detailed records of their AI's development and testing. On copyright, providers of general-purpose AI models must implement policies to comply with Union copyright law and publish a summary of the training content used to develop the model, based on a template to be issued by the AI Office. Working Group 1 of the consultation addresses transparency and copyright-related rules, including documentation to downstream providers and the AI Office.
