BRICS+: BRICS leaders signed Declaration on Strengthening Global South Cooperation for a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance including measures concerning governance of AI

On 6 July 2025, the BRICS Member States Representatives adopted the Joint Declaration on Strengthening Global South Cooperation for a More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance, including measures concerning governance of artificial intelligence (AI) following the 17th Summit. The declaration recognises AI as an opportunity for advancing global development, and the representatives stressed the importance of establishing governance frameworks that address associated risks and reflect the needs of all countries, particularly those in the Global South. They underscored the need for a coordinated international approach that promotes trust, safeguards sovereignty, and ensures inclusive cooperation and access. The declaration supports the responsible use of AI technologies in line with sustainable development objectives, national laws, and the principles of the UN Charter.
