On 2 July 2025, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) adopted the Helsinki Statement on enhanced clarity, support and engagement. The Statement introduces new initiatives to simplify General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance, foster responsible innovation, and strengthen competitiveness in Europe. The Statement applies to micro, small and medium-sized organisations handling personal data across the European Union, particularly in the digital economy. It sets out measures including ready-to-use templates for organisations, a harmonised data breach notification template, practical compliance resources, and increased consistency in GDPR enforcement through coordinated actions, guideline reviews, and ‘case law’-style publications.
